Autumn in the Adirondacks

Travel & Adventure

Autumn in the Adirondacks

Say so long to summer, few places are more striking than New England in autumn. And with millions of acres of lush landscapes, quaint towns, and waterfront properties, it’s no wonder why the Adirondack Park becomes a top travel destination each fall. S

Elevated Your Experience by taking leaf-peeping to the next level? Some of the best views are found at the highest altitudes. Whether that be a gondola ride, the top of the Olympic Ski Jump in Lake Placid, or a hot air balloon. There are endless excursions that will take you to new heights.

Here are 4 reasons to travel to the Adirondacks this fall:

Fall Foliage – It would be impossible to lead this list with anything other than the spectacular fall foliage that is seen each year. Leaf peeping, as it is lovingly called, peaks from late September to early October. We recommend taking a drive on one of the many scenic byways to soak up the crisp hues.

Take a Hike – Not ready to tackle the 46? No worries, the Adirondacks are chock-full of beginner trails with equally amazing views. We recommend checking out The Fire Tower Challenge. Bonus points for the above-the-treeline views fire towers provide for better leaf peeping!

Rugged Romance – Our quaint downtown’s, flannels, fireplaces, and foliage resemble a rom-com brought to life. The ‘Dacks bring the romance with a dash of rustic flair. Cozy up in a cabin or relax in a traditional Adirondack chair to enjoy the ambiance.

Drink Like a Local – Go full stein ahead and toast to Oktoberfest! The Adirondack Craft Beverage Trail leads to over 20 breweries to taste test some of the finest beers, wines, and spirits in the high peaks region. Prost!

Fall in Love with the Adirondacks this Autumn – Don’t just take our word for it, come see all the magic the Adirondack Park has to offer for yourself. We know that after one visit you will fall in love with this incredible region. Want your own piece of peeper’s paradise?

Best Locations for Leaf Peeping in the Adirondacks

With 6 million acres to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which areas will have the most vibrant fall foliage. Here are some of our favorite places where you can see fall foliage in the Adirondack Park:

Lake George has some of the most beautiful fall foliage in all of New York State. Explore over 50 miles of hiking trails through state parks, forests, and private lands. If you have time between hikes, stop by Lake George Village for a cider donut and warm drink at one of the many cafes lining Main Street.

Lake Placid – As one of the most popular locations in the Adirondacks, it’s no surprise that Lake Placid offers spectacular opportunities for leaf peeping. Spend a crisp fall day with spectacular displays reflected along the shores of Mirror Lake or take a scenic drive to the summit of Whiteface Mountain to enjoy the colors with 360-degree views of the high peaks.

Long Lake –  Centrally located, Long Lake is an easy 2-hour drive from the Capital Region, 2 hours south of Montreal, and less than 5 hours from Boston and New York City, making it the perfect destination for locals and out-of-towners alike!
